Bio:

Wang Yi-an is a Full Professor and Vice Dean at the School of Foreign Languages and Literature of Hangzhou Dianzi University. 

He got his MA in Cross-cultural Communication at the University of Sydney, and his Ph.D degree at the Intercultural Institute (SII) 

of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU). He is a member of the China Association for Intercultural communication (CAFIC), 

the International Association for Intercultural Communication Studies (IAICS) and the International Association of Language and 

Intercultural Communication (IALIC). His research interest focuses on intercultural competence development and assessment 

and its application in different contexts.He has conducted several Chinese National and Provincial Projects related to Intercultural 

competence development and assessment, and worked as a Chinese partner in Eurasia-Pacific Uninect Project “Roots of Understanding: 

Intercultural Learning Histories as a New Approach for Growing Intercultural Understanding". He is the author of 20 articles and book 

chapters on intercultural competence, international education and internationalization.

Bio:

Miao Liyang is an associate professor in the School of Foreign Languages at HDU. She obtained her MA degree in TESOL from

 the University of New South Wales, Australia. She has been teaching English for over 15 years and Intercultural Communication 

for about 5 years. Her research interest is developing intercultural competence; intercultural education, focusing on how to 

effectively combine intercultural education with foreign language education to develop students’ intercultural and communicative 

competence so that the students can live more competently and comfortably in a culturally-diverse, ever-morphing world. 

She has conducted several research projects with provincial, municipal, and university funding in the fields of intercultural 

communication, intercultural adaptation, and intercultural education.

Bio:

Li Ren is lecturer based in College of Foreign Languages, Hangzhou Dianzi University, China. After graduated from Shanghai 

International Studies University, she has been worked for eleven years in Department of English Languages and Literature 

at HDU, teaching the courses such as Intercultural Communication and Comprehensive English etc.. She is interested in the 

hidden power of culture in languages. She has been actively involved in TEFL research, specifically in cultural factors that

 influence language learning and the ELL’s native culture and the humanities in language education.

Bio:

Yang Xiaoyi is lecturer in College of Foreign Languages, Hangzhou Dianzi University, China. Having obtained her MA degree 

at Beijing Foreign Studies Univeristy, she has been working in Department of English Language and Literature at HDU, teaching 

courses such as Intercultural Communication and English for Science and Technology. Her spheres of interest include 

intercultural communication and journalism. She has participated in several research programs on pedagogies of foreign 

language teaching. She also published several articles concerning foreign language teaching.

Name: Chen Sheng

Bio:

Sheng Chen is an assistant professor at the School of Foreign Languages, Hangzhou Dianzi University. Having obtained her 

MA degree at the School of International Studies, Zhejiang University, she has been teaching English for over 10 years and 

Intercultural Communication for recent 5 years. 

Her interest of studies lies in English literature and narratologies. In 2015, she was on a visiting program funded by HDU 

at the department of comparative literature, University of Washington(Seattle). Currently, she is working on the life writing 

of Henry James.
