Prue Holmes is Professor in Intercultural Communication and International Education, and Director of Postgraduate Research in the School 

of Education, Durham University, United Kingdom. She researches, publishes, and supervises postgraduate students in the areas of intercultural 

and international education, languages and intercultural communication, and intercultural dialogue. Her research and publications can be found

Prue has also taught English language and intercultural education in higher education in China, Hong Kong, Italy, and New Zealand. She leads 

an AHRC-funded network project on excluded youths in education in contexts of conflict and other protracted crises (AH/S003967/1). She chairs 

the International Association of Languages and Intercultural Communication (IALIC) and co-edits the Multilingual Matters book series 

Researching Multilingually.


Name: Annelies Messelink

Annelies Messelink currently works as an education researcher and project leader at NUFFIC, the Dutch organisation for internationalisation 

in education. Previously, she lectured intercultural communication at Utrecht University and was an adviser on international education at 

StudyPortals. Her main interests include the interface of theory and practice in the areas of education, internationalization and intercultural 

competence and awareness. As a former trainee at the European Commission (DG Education and Culture) and project collaborator in several 

Erasmus+ projects (ATIAH, RICH-Ed), she also developed a special interest in European policy regarding international education. Annelies 

holds a Master's Degree in Intercultural Communication from Utrecht University.
